Now I wrote this more than a year ago, I have finished my junior year and will hopefully have that story finished before I enter my senior year. But here's a topical day for me from a day in school.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was intensely studying the inside of my eyelids when my alarm goes off. I hit it. I roll over and see that it is 6:30 am. “Yawn! Got to get up. Groan!” I tell myself. This year is different, not only am I not the ‘Fresh meat’ that Seniors would say, but my brother is the ‘Fresh Meat’. Oh yeah! That was going to be fun. Anyways, I put my feet on the ice cold floor and get up. I stretch to the ceiling then touch my toes. “Wow, I’m stiff.” I tell myself, I talk to myself a lot in the morning. I grab my towel and tip toes up stairs, so my brother won’t wake up. I step up to the last step and see my brother opening his door. He gives me this look. And I then immediately turn and finish my rush upstairs as my brother comes rushing after me with his dogs right behind him. It was a race to the shower. I try to pick up my pace but my brother was right on my heel. I turn the corner and do a sprint to the bathroom. I slip behind the bathroom door and lock it. My brother starts banging on the door in defeat. I quickly take my shower, how refreshing it is to take it with victory running through your blood. I soon am done and exit the bathroom, Matt (my brother) then walks by me to enter the shower while giving me an evil glare. I laugh and head to the table and eat a quick breakfast while doing devotions. I do my finishing touchs on getting ready for school and then look at the clock. It’s 7:30, time to go. I head out to the garage and hop on my moped and take off. A few minutes later I arrive at school. I made good time, It was 7:45. Ten minutes until class, this gives me time to walk around with friends or finish some assignments. At about 7:53 I go to my first hour, Theatre.
I enter Theatre class and everyone is talking. I sit down at my table and we have our debate whether or not if Arby’s serves chicken sandwiches or just talk random stuff. Mr. Sciender then comes out tells us to listen to announcements, the class quiets down some, but it is still pretty noisy. After announcements Sceinder gives his Theatre announcements. We then began class. Theatre class is not like any other class. You do a lot of hands on stuff. Like playing a ton of different theatre games. They are quick thinking games to help us better on stage. Theatre class is fun because you can make a fool of your self without feeling weird. One of the plus sides of theatre class besides being able to freely express yourself, is that you have almost no homework. If you get homework it is only because you need to memorize lines, but it’s not that bad. Lots of joking and fun goes on as we learn. Then the bell rings and first hour is over.
I leave the performing art building and head to the main building. I bump into Kraft on my way to second hour and we do our routinely wassup pass. Then I meet up with my best friend Jane and we walk to the end of the hall below the stairs of my second hour class. We do our annually drink call, then step aside and talk. Devon joins us and we chat for a few. Then the warning bell rings and Jane and I do our special handshake and depart our separate ways. I head upstairs to Chemx with Mr. Sissing. I get to class and see that the door is shut and lock. I then go “oh, stink! We have to do the song ticket today!” Everyone begins to panic and pulls out their binders and quickly try to memorize the song. We all get in line, and Mr. Sissing opens the door. “Why hello guys! Are you ready?” Everyone steps up and one by one everyone sings the scientific method song. Finally it gets to be my turn I sing it and do the motions. WOOHOOO! I passed! Mr. Sissing let’s me. What a relief. I sit down at my desk and wait until everyone is done. Mr. Sissing then boots up his computer and starts up the openings which are short little video clips about some interesting new scientific research. After we watch it we LAP about. Then Mr. Sissing does a character study of the day which I really like. He picks a character like Humility or Encouraging or something like that then he talks about it so that we may learn something about doing better in the world. Mr. Sissing is a very cool teacher, because he really does care about us. Everyday he reminds us that he’s there for us before school, after school, or at lunch if we need extra help. Mr. Sissing then goes over the Mind map (our agenda) for today. Mr. Sissing tries to come with interesting hands on stuff to help us learn better. Like the songs he teaches us. Most of the time we will wine and groan about having to learn a new song, but inside I think we are all excited and happy that Mr. Sissing works hard to come up with these songs and fun ways to help us learn better. One other cool thing is that we have a table partner that we do everything with. My partner is Tyler. He’s pretty cool. We both help each other a lot on stuff we don’t understand. And neither of us is afraid to ask Mr. Sissing for help. Well, after we learn a song or do an experiment or take notes. The bell rings and it is finally time for lunch, which is still at 10:32. But now it’s time for some fun.
I head downstairs and meet up with Jane. We talk about how are second hour went then head to the art room to set our bags down. This year at school I am involved in a whole lot of clubs. FCA, SADD, and Calling-All-Colors. But when I don’t have a meeting then Jane and I head to Speed Way and get some yummy slushies. Jane has a car so, we can get there and back pretty quickly. When we get back we walk the hallways with our slushies and talk and talk to some of our other friends too. We then head to the school’s microwave and I heat up my lunch that I packed. Jane and I then take a seat and split it. Yum yum. We take another walk around then start heading to the green hall for class. Jane tries to quickly gulp down her slushie before her third hour class, because her teacher can’t stand drinks in her class. The warning bell rings and we depart yet again our separate ways. I head into one of my other favorite classes, History.
History class is awesome! Awesome classmates, Awesome subject, and of course awesome teacher. Mr. T teaches in a very interesting way. He loves to make the class a fun, joking, yet serious environment. Some of the same people our in this class as in my world history class last year. One of them would be Eric. He definantly lives the class up even more with personality. Mr. T announces to us that we are going to be playing jeopardy today. Some quickly try to get in a order that will hopely get them in the same group as their friends. Mr. T then counts us off into groups. We split up and quickly try to form a circle with our chair with our group to get the extra bonus points. We quickly sit down and yell done just a few seconds before the other team. We cheer because we get the extra points. Mr. T announces the prize of the day is extra credit on the test. Everyone starts giving their team the look that they must win because they NEED the extra help. I feel pretty confident because I studied pretty hard the previous night and took good notes. And I have good team members: Jason, Liz, Jeff, and Matt. I give named spokesperson and the game is on. We are given some tough questions but we nail them or are completing humiliated. Just kidding, but it does get pretty intense. Until it comes to the final round where its double or nothing. Our team decides to bet it all. We are in suspense as we wait for the question hoping that we did not just make a mistake. But we decided to go big or go home. Finally the question is given. I let out a sigh of relief because I know the answer. Then a problem arises, Liz Wolter is positive that the answer is something else. Uh oh, one minute left to decide before we have to hand in our answer. The group is split, which one is correct? We quickly just randomly write one down hope that it is right. We hand it in with just a few seconds to spare. We all cross our fingers hoping that ours is correct. He’s reads off the other groups. Lots of cries of victory and defeat. Then Mr. T comes to our card he reads it and pauses. He then says to us, “This is killing you to know if it is correct isn’t it?” We all yell, “Yes!” He laugh then says slowly, “iiiittttt……iiiiisssss….(pause breathing break)……correct!” We all leap out of our seats and yell excitedly! We won! We run over to Mr. T’s desk to write down our names for the extra credit. We then put the room back together and gather our things and wait by the door for the bell to ring. As we wait we all ‘fellowship’ with one another until the bell rings. Then it’s a mad pack to get through the door. We all say bye and hi five each other and then I meet up with Jane to head to…..fourth hour!
Jane and I walk between third and fourth hour to get a change of pace. Probably the best thing about fourth hour is that we have it together. It’s our only class that we have together. So, we walk back inside and head to Math class. We take our usual seats and chat some more. The bell rings and Ms. Wallace and Ms. Van Laan (her student teacher) come in and set up for the day. Jane and I continue to talk and the rest of class does too while they get set up. Ms. Wallace then announces it is time to get started. She starts off with a question of the day which is just a random fun question like What’s your dream job, What’s your favorite animal, What did you do this weekend, and stuff like that. We then get down to business and Ms. Wallace let’s Ms. Van Laan take over and teach us. Ms. Van Laan is a great teacher, I love her style of teaching, it’s very fun and hands-on. She tells that we are playing a game today, Final Four Geometry. We quickly arrange into teams. Jane and I join up and recruit Claudia and Jimmy over to our team. We decide to name our team the ‘Sphere Monkeys’. I then pull out our mascot ArchieKins and Funkie Junkie. We are very excite to get started. The game goes on. It’s a lot of fun. Some questions easy some hard. But we fly by the best we can. Finally the moment of truth comes and we faced with trying to make a basket to gain extra points. I’m up to try to score my team holds their breaths as I aim and prepare to take shot. I grasp the ball and close my eyes and shoot the ball. It tumbles through the air, it begins to round the rim, I fall to the ground hoping it will make it in. Silence falls across the room. Finally, the makes it’s last loop and it…..falls in!!! Yahoo! We win! The Sphere Monkeys jump up and cheer. We win!! Then the bell rings and fourth hour is over.
We depart and Jane and I head to our final class. We take a short cut to avoid traffic and then stop at are corner to chat before we have to go to class. We do are special handshake again and take off for our final hour. I take a deep breath then prepare to enter my fifth hour, American Literature.
Now, I like the subject, it’s just that my English class is, how should I put this? Oh yeah, rowdy. And I’m right in the crossfire. I still enjoy it, but sometimes it does get stressful. Especially when you’re trying to read. But the class can be fun too. Ms. Mawdsley is the teacher, and she is a sweet person, but you can tell at times she just wants to pull her hair out. She tries her best to try to get the class under control. She finally decided to form reading groups which seemed to help a lot. It made it much more enjoyable and more controllable class. Occasionally, we will have art projects for us to express what we learning while reading the different kind of books. I love this because I love art projects. After some hot debates on some random topics the bell rings and class has ended. Finally, school is over! I race out and meet up with Jane. We hang out and walk around the school chatting and giving the cameras ‘peace offerings’. Then we at last depart our separate ways for home or sports practice.
Well, there you have it. Yet another year in my life as a Holland High student. Only the future tells what is in store for me the coming years. I can hardly believe that I am half way done with highschool. It’s been a blast. I absolutely love it. I will never forget all the memories I had here. Thanks for all the wonderful memories, I look forward to more in the future as I enter my Junior and Senior year. Peace Out!
